What's this?

What difference does it make?

Contrasting organization and converging outcomes regarding the privatization of state social work in England and Canada

Malcolm Carey

School of Social Work, Liverpool John Moores University, Henry Cotton Campus, 15-21 Webster St, Liverpool L3 2ET, UK, M.Carey{at}ljmu.ac.uk

English

The article explores the privatization of social work in both England and Canada. Although differences persist in the structural organization of social services in both countries, it is argued that such disparities are increasingly blurred by radical market reforms of the social work labour process (among other changes).

Key Words: convergence • labour process • privatization • pro-market rationalization
