Medical social work in Malaysia

Issues in practice

Sara Ashencaen Crabtree

Department of Social Work, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shatin, New Territories, Hong Kong crabtree{at}swk.cuhk.edu.hk

Hospital social work in Malaysia holds an important position compared with other areas of social work. Alliances with medicine are pro.table in raising the pro.le of the profession. But the lack of community services, medical hierarchy and staff shortages militate against further regional development of the social work role.
