Reverse mission

A model for international social work education and transformative intra-national practice

A reverse-mission approach to international social work is explored, drawing upon ecumenical efforts of global mission education. Instead of teaching, preaching, and trying to convert others, emphasis is on learning, consciousness-raising, and advocating for changes in one's home country that can impact poverty and injustice in the world.

Cet article explore une approche dite ‘de mission renversée’ en travail social international, qui s’inspire d’efforts écuméniques en éducation pour une mission globale. Plutôt que d’enseigner, de précher et d’essayer de convertir les autres, l’emphase est mise sur l’apprentissage, la conscientisation et le plaidoyer en vue de changements à apporter dans son propre pays, qui pourraient avoir un impact sur la pauvreté et l’injustice dans le monde.
