Values, theories and methods in social work education

A culturally transferable core?

Zoya Taylor

Diaconia College Centre, School of Social Work, Postboks 184 Vinderen, N-0319 Oslo, Norway, zoya{at}online.no

Due to the crisis of the welfare state in the industrialized countries, voluntarism, privatization and self-help have replaced many statutory programs. Attempts to "indigenize" social work as a profession in developing country contexts require that the main thrust of social work education be questioned. The lack of resources available for social services has implications for the development of a model for social work education which is compatible internationally.
